With the second wave of CoVID-19 taking a toll on a lot of people's lives, and the government in order to restrict the spread, imposing lockdowns has made it impossible to get out of homes.

This' had a massive negative impact on most companies that require employees to work offline, however, pick-up and drop service has seen a huge rise in business. There are so many pick-up and drop services at offer right now, making it quite confusing and difficult for consumers to choose. And the precise intention of this article is to help you get rid of them.

Me, during my quarantine, used a few of them and have quite a different opinion on each of them, stated below: (Numbers 'do not' represent rank) 1. Swiggy Genie:

Swiggy, previously know for their restaurant delivery service, has now expanded and started providing pick-up and drop-service from anywhere around the city.

You can get delivered to you, from anywhere around the city, as listed on their app, Food Items, Medicines, Documents or Books, Electronic Items, Clothes, Items for repair and Business deliveries. There of course is an 'Other' option as well (Delivery of alcohol or any other illegal items is not offer here)

There also is an option of you getting delivered stuff from stores. Just list the products on their app, and if they're available at the store, the executive will pay for it, confirm and request payment from you, and then deliver it.

Rate Card:

  • Standard fee (upto 2kms) - ₹30

  • Every additional km (rate/km) - ₹15/km

Reliability: Except for one bad day, when I kept getting "Oops, something's wrong", I've had no problems and got no complains against it.

The only con: Anything's that delivered by Swiggy, happens by executives on Motorbikes, making large-sized articles undeliverable. Well, if that's something that concerns you, I've listed a solution ahead in the article.

2. Dunzo:

Dunzo was one of the first ones to get into this business and they never really had been successful until of course when the lockdown was announced. Just like Swiggy and every other app featuring in this article, you can get stuff delivered from either houses of someone you know or stores.

They too have got a similar rate card to Swiggy. A ₹30 basal charge and a variable additional distance charge, ranging from ₹10 to ₹15 per km.

Reliability: This' surely not something you'd want a pick-up and drop-service to lack. But unfortunately, as far as my experience's concerned, I've had circumstances when highly well-know locations too weren't serviceable. But this surely may not be the same throughout places.

The con continues: Dunzo too, doesn't accept articles that can't be transported on a motorbike.

3. Porter:

The one and only feature that Porter's got, giving it a upper hand over Swiggy and Dunzo is the variety of vehicles for offer, ranging from a two-wheeler to a Tata 407. You can of course get stuff delivered from a known person's house, but from stores, is quite a hassle, a workaround I'd say. You, personally would have to contact the store and request them to keep the package ready for the Porter to collect. The payment to the store too isn't done by the Porter, you have to do it.

Rate Card:

  • Base fee: ₹40 (Includes 1km distance and 25 minutes of time)

  • Additional fare : Range (₹10-15/km)

On the whole, pricing of all the three is quite similar.

Reliability: I've said this, and I'm saying it again, it's solely based on my experience and it's been great! The serviceable area is larger as compared to Dunzo and equivalent to Swiggy.
