In the recently concluded WWDC, Apple announced quite a few updates to the Privacy side of things on their devices, namely Macs, iPhones and iPad. To anyone who's been following Apple for some time now, it'd be clear that Apple's damn concerned of the users' privacy. That's one of the major reasons for their users being so loyal to them.

The most recent privacy update, prior to the WWDC, was the transparency on what data is being collected by apps. Apps, then couldn't track you without having your consent on the same. Adding-on, at the WWDC was announced, Mail Privacy Protection, App Privacy Report and On-Device Speech Processing on Siri.

Mail Privacy Report:

From any website you share your e-mail ID with, you’d probably keep getting tons of promotional/marketing mails. Not only are those mails annoying, filling up your inbox, but also collect a lot of your data without your knowledge, which can include your IP Address, time at which you read the mail, and your Location. You of course wouldn’t want the sender to know all of this, would you, especially, if it’s happening without you knowing. With Mail Privacy Report, you can choose not to allow the sender to collect data. When toggled on, it hides your IP Address, Location and ‘Read’ status.

App Privacy Report:

Safari, for a long time now’s had the Privacy Report that lets you know what trackers were prevented from profiling you and were contacted from what website. The same transparency’s now been brought to apps too (It was just ‘What’, then and is ‘When’, now). App Privacy Report lets you know how often each app uses the permission that you’ve granted, during the last seven days, be it Camera, Microphone, Contacts, Location or anything else. You can also know the third-party domains the app’s contacting and sending your data to.

Siri:

Siri’s had speech recognition for a long time now, but it‘s gotten better. From now on, all of your voice is processed locally, with the audio never leaving your device. This not just makes using Siri more secure, but also enables offline-usage provided the task doesn’t involve the internet, like launching apps, changing settings, controlling music et cetera. Also, on-device processiong makes execution of the tasks so much more faster.

Well, that was it. Thanks a lot for reading till the end! Here’s a donut! 🍩
