LG Wing! : LG gives you wiings!?

Quite a while after the global launch, LG launched it’s LG Wing here in India too. LG hasn’t been successful in India in the recent past. Is the Wing going to get them back on track?

Here’s what the LG Wing’s got to offer:

Display: 

The most attractive and amusing aspect of this smartphone it its Display. It’s got 2 displays. WAIT. What? Is it a foldable? Nope!

Is it a dual screen side-by-side? Nope!

This is a swivelling display!

By default, you can use it the way you do with other smartphones (with a heft, as it’s got another display behind it), but when you want to use the second screen, you can just push the primary screen to the left (Clockwise), which makes the secondary display accessible. 

You might wonder, why would anyone want to do that? But it actually makes some sense. Many brands marketing RAM as the most important aspect is because of the need of multi-tasking in the present times. And LG’s done that in their own way. Why have more RAM to multitask when you got another screen. 

But this one too has got its own disadvantages: All apps on the PlayStore haven’t been programmed with this in mind, but the usual form-factor. 

But there surely are apps making superb use of it: The Camera App – Controls on the small screen and preview on the bigger one ; Asphalt 9 – Map on the smaller and the rest on the bigger screen ; YouTube – Controls on the small one and playback on the big screen. 

And oh, both of them are OLED displays, the primary being a massive 6.8 inch panel, the secondary is 3.9  inch. 

I personally am a fan of this form-factor. Are you?

Performance:

The LG Wing has got Qualcomm’s Higher Mid-Range 5G chipset, Snapdragon 765G. As per the 765G’s performance on the likes of OnePlus’ Nord , Vivo’s V20 Pro and X50 Pro and Google’s Pixel 5, it seems like this one too is going to perform really well with day-to-day and also ease through games and other graphically intensive tasks. 

Though, the LG Wing is regarded as a Flagship (the price point at which it sells), the performance ‘on paper’ doesn’t seem convincing. Nevertheless, the Snapdragon 765G is very capable chip. 

Cameras:

Here’s a triple camera setup : A 64-Megapixel Primary, a 12-Megapixel Ultra-wide and a  12-Megapixel Ultra-wide Gimbal Motion Camera (Which LG claims to deliver gimbal-like stabilisation. If it does so, GREAT!).

The other 2 (Primary and ultra wide) too are expected to perform really good. 

How could anyone forget the selfie/front-camera : It’s a 32-Megapixel Shooter, that pops-out, when switched to the front camera mode.

Battery:

The 2 screens on the LG Wing add up to quite a lot of heft, due to which LG’s gone with a 4000 mAh battery, with a 25W fast charger in the box. On paper, it may seem less, considering the fact that it’s got 2 displays to power. 

Pricing:

The LG Wing costs 69,990 INR which might seem cheap, considering it’s got a dual-display that swivels. But it also has got a few downgrades when it comes it Performance and battery (Don’t get me wrong. They’re really good. But I felt, they aren’t quite justifiable given the price point) 

If you’re a fan of the display here and are keen on handling it with care, it’s a good deal!
