Confused on which Mail App (Client) to use for you E-mail? Here’s a guide!

 This blog too, like the previous one will feature some of the 1st Party Applications (In-built in your smartphones), but I’d rather suggest you not to use them. (There are exceptions though)

As always, let’s kick off with Google. 

Gmail

Google’s solution for mail app (It isn’t an app really) is its Gmail (which, basically means ‘Google Mail’) 

Gmail lets you access you mailbox irrespective of which email service you’re using (Yahoo, Hotmail, or any other service). But it’s feature-rich when you use it for your Gmail Account only. Some of the features like Instant Meet, Hangouts, Reminders, Notes etc are accessible only if you’ve got a Gmail account. 

All this is fine. But where do you have to access of it? 

I’m afraid, you can access it only through a Web-Browser (Google prefers you to use Chrome. But I’d contradict. Use Edge) 

The lack of a Web-App here might be a little sad, but the extras features that it’s got is ready to compensate. 

Platforms supported: Android (App), Windows (Browser), MacOS (Browser), iOS (App) and iPadOS (App)

Windows 10 Mail

I repeat my statement from the previous blog: “There’s nothing that Microsoft doesn’t have and Google does, except for android. 

And Windows Mail is Microsoft’s solution for your email. Can it outperform Google here? 

Windows Mail’s biggest advantage over Gmail is that it’s got a Web-App (it is a Web-app actually. You can’t access it through a browser). 

Not just that, shifting between accounts on Windows Mail is flawless! Definitely outperforming Gmail here, which takes way more time, opening it in a new tab. 

Though, it doesn’t have some of the features like Instant Meet and Hangouts, it really is GREAT! 

And the only other flaw here is that it’s Windows only (The name suggests :)). 

Though its a First-Party, I thought it deserved a mention because it’s way better than the others. 

Outlook

This one too being Microsoft’s, is the real counter-attack to Gmail. Every aspect that MS Mail couldn’t get through, is fulfilled here. 

It’s got a Web-App, which surely provides way better experience than on a browser. Just like how Gmail’s got Google Account only features, Outlook too has its own. 

If you’re using Outlook for you Microsoft Account, then you get so many extra features: 

1. Start Meet and send invitation (Teams) [Office 365] 

2. Access your calendar

3. Set Reminders and take Notes (Notes on OneNote, of course)

Platforms supported: Android (App), Windows (App), MacOS (App), iOS (App) and iPadOS (App)

Apple Mail

If you’re an Apple user and do not use Apple Mail as your primary mail app, then that’s the biggest blunder you can make(Provided you’re not a fan of exclusive features). Though, you miss out of exclusive features provided by whatever email using, its so very convenient. Adding to that is Automation on Shortcuts. You can make use the Shortcut App that’s built-in on your iPhone or iPad to create automations. 

Like, you can program it to open an app, a document or even reply back, when you receive a mail from specifically mentioned person and subject. 

Supported Platforms: iOS (App), iPadOS (App)

With most of the features listed, find out which one’s for whom:

Gmail: 

If you access your email (Gmail, to be specific) only through your smartphone (again, Android), Gmail’s (App) for you. 

The only other case when you surely got to use Gmail is when you can’t live without Google Account-exclusive features. 

MS Mail: 

IF you’re not a huge fan of exclusives and access only through your PC, this is GREAT!

Outlook: 

If you’ve got a Microsoft Account, picking anything else would be a no-brainer. So, got a Microsoft Account? Outlook’s for you!

You don’t have a Microsoft Account? 

Even then, it’s GREAT, provided you don’t really use the exclusive features. 

Apple Mail: 

Irrespective of what email you’re using, if you’re an iPhone or iPad user, you surely should go for this one.
